Bruce A. Porter, MD, FACR

Medical Director

Bruce A. Porter, MD, FACR, is the medical director of Swedish/First Hill Diagnostic Imaging and has been an active member of the Seattle medical community since 1984.

Dr. Porter is a native of Grand Forks, ND and received a B.S. in medicine from the University of North Dakota in 1972. Dr. Porter completed his MD at the University of California-Davis in 1974. After internship in Hawaii, his residency training began in Nuclear Medicine at Stanford University and subsequently finished in Diagnostic Radiology at UC Davis. In 1981, he completed a fellowship in abdominal imaging, angiography, and interventional radiology at the University of Lund, Sweden.

Dr. Porter is a clinical associate professor at the University of Washington, an affiliate investigator at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, and is a fellow of the American College of Radiology (FACR).  

Dr. Porter is an internationally-recognized lecturer on Magnetic Resonance (MR) imaging and ultrasound as well as a consultant to imaging equipment and CAD manufacturers for advanced clinical applications. He has published numerous papers, focusing on imaging of breast and other cancers. Dr. Porter has presented more than 300 lectures at scientific meetings and is an author on multiple papers, chapters and exhibits; he also hosts a yearly scientific meeting on Multimodality Imaging of Breast Cancer as well as week-long physician fellowships in Breast MR.

Dr. Porter lives on a boat in Seattle with his wife Sharon; they have many outside interests, particularly enjoying the outdoor aspects of Northwest living. He is quite fluent in Swedish and has three grown boys who speak Swedish as well.
