Diagnostic Radiologist

Dr. Joy Darrah received her M.D. degree from the University of Kansas in 1974 and following residency, was board certified in diagnostic radiology. She was appointed Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. Her interest in breast imaging as a means of reducing breast cancer mortality led her to a mini fellowship with Dr. Laszlo Tabar in Sweden. In 1985 she established and for 13 years successfully directed a breast clinic in Wichita, Kansas to institute low cost screening mammography. During that time she also served the community for eight years as a board member of the Kansas Division of the American Cancer Society, serving as President from 1989-1990. In 1999, she accepted a position as Director of Breast Imaging as part of a multidisciplinary team approach to breast cancer at Central Health in Lynchburg, Virginia. She has always maintained a desire to provide women with up to date and quality breast imaging to enable important early detection of breast cancer. While her initial interest was in developing high-quality screening mammography programs, the more recent impact of breast MR in diagnosing and treating breast cancer led her to her current position in breast imaging at First Hill Diagnostic Imaging. In addition to her medical practice, Dr. Darrah enjoys her three wonderful grown children, two grandchildren, and has a passion for horseback riding. |
